This is a story of how braces brought my smile back – and a reminder of the importance of dental insurance, for you, your smile, and your family.

There’s a photo decomposing in a landfill somewhere. Well, I’m sure there are many, but this particular one… I can still see it. The third grade version of myself with her head thrown back in roaring laughter. And the camera pointed right into her mouth. Two front teeth so crooked they formed a T. The day I saw that picture, I stopped smiling uncensored. My laughs were measured in close-mouthed doses, and my smiles were weak lines of upward turned lips.

Braces brought my smile back.

Years later, I was finally old enough to get braces, and thankfully, my parents had good dental insurance. One day and the worst tension headache later, those crooked teeth had been reformed. They spent a couple years behind bars to prove their rehabilitation, but eventually, they were free, and my smile was released with them.

Wearing braces was incredibly uncomfortable and inconvenient. I mean… giving up caramel for any length of time just isn’t right. But the payoff was well worth it. My smile is one of my greatest treasures, not only because it makes me feel good, but also because it is something I can share with others. No longer do I hide behind thinly pursed lips hoping people won’t notice my crooked teeth. Now I smile at everyone I meet, improving my day – and hopefully passing that joy on to others.

The Importance of Dental Insurance

Dental insurance is an important tool in protecting your health and the health of your family. Not only is oral healthcare important to help you feel confident about your smile, but it also affects other important elements of your health – such as your heart. Guardian Dental offers PPO plans and DHMO plans so you can find the right dental coverage for you and your family. And the best part? Guardian Dental plans can be purchased individually at any time throughout the year. No qualifying event required.

I was recently on their website, and it was simple to get a quote for dental insurance. While I was there, I also checked out a few blog posts. Do you know how often you should replace your toothbrush? Or ways to keep clean, healthy teeth with braces? Or steps for choosing the right dental insurance?
