Okay, so the title might seem like it has to be an exaggeration – but IT’S NOT!

Bountiful Baskets is this thing I randomly stumbled onto online about a week ago. I read through their website and couldn’t help but be intrigued.

So here’s the deal, if you live near any of these locations, you love veggies and fruits, and you don’t mind waking up early on a Saturday, Bountiful Baskets may be a good option for you.

Bountiful Baskets is a food co-op, meaning that it is definitely not-for-profit. Nobody even gets paid to do anything. The people who run it are all volunteers, and if you decide to participate, it is asked that you volunteer 1/7 of times that you participate.

As a food co-op, everyone pools their money together (done by contributing $15 for a basket of fruits and veggies on a Monday or Tuesday), and then tons of fruits and veggies are bought and distributed across the different locations and into individual baskets (ready to be picked up during a 20 minute window on an early Saturday morning).

In addition to offering the $15 basket, they also offer add-ons. We opted in to receive the Italian Theme Veggie Lover’s Pack this week ($8.50 extra).  There are also offerings such as breads and sometimes seasonal items in large quantities.

So the total cost for us was:

$15 for a conventional basket
$8.50 Veggie Lover’s Pack
$3 first time basket fee (this is used to buy a laundry basket to sort food at the location; it stays there for future weeks)
$1.50 credit card fee (every penny of your money besides the $1.50 and $3 goes towards your food)

Total cost: $28 – in the future, it would only be $25 since we’ve already paid the first time basket fee.

And here’s the best part!

This is everything we received for our $28. That is a LOT of food!
I have broken the basket into the main basket and the Italian Pack below with a list of the items in each.
Conventional Basket: $15
1 lb purple grapes
9 LARGE bananas
5 small apples
2 Asian pears
6 oz. blackberries
13 clementines
1 bunch of spinach
1 heart of romaine lettuce
3 small stalks of broccoli
2 cucumbers
8 radishes
2 avocados
5 tomatoes
Veggie Lover’s Italian Theme Pack: $8.50
2 yellow onions
1 red onion
1 clove of garlic
large bunch of Italian Parsley
bunch fresh oregano
bunch fresh rosemary
bunch fresh basil
1 zucchini
1 eggplant
1 container of mushrooms
All in all, I feel like we saved a TON of money, and now we have fruits and veggies for the next couple weeks at a fraction of what we would have paid. It was DEFINITELY worth waking up early for.
